Coalorix — up to 15% coal savings at thermal plants.
— Brief
India burns 1.3 billion tonnes of coal a year across a 210 GW thermal fleet. Grafillium needed a drop-in nano-technology combustion improver that lifted efficiency and pulled stack emissions back — with no infrastructure modifications, no plant overhaul and no shutdown.
— Approach
We co-developed Coalorix — a nano-additive coal treatment dosed at the conveyor, tuned for Indian coal grades. Bench combustion characterisation, then on-site field trials with partner thermal plants, with stack monitoring (PM, NOₓ, SO₂, CO) and ash-quality checks across operating loads against an untreated baseline.
— Outcome
Up to 15% coal savings, lower PM/NOₓ/SO₂/CO emissions, faster ignition, better ash quality and up to 100% combustion effectiveness — with no infrastructure changes. At national deployment scale across India's thermal sector, Grafillium's modelling indicates ~35.6 lakh tons of coal saved per day, ~₹1,070 Cr/day cost reduction and ~55 lakh tons of CO₂ avoided per day.
